Its foundation is based on an agreement between UNESCO, the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture and the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts. It was the first MA programme in cultural management in Lithuania. The course is among the first cultural management programmes in Eastern and Central Europe which met international standards in developing a consistent curriculum in cultural management and cultural policy studies.

Programme Goal:
Preparation of highly qualified specialists in cultural management and cultural policy on MA level to carry out theoretical/research activities and practical projects.
The programme provides opportunities for students with Bachelor degree to extend their knowledge and skills in the field of modern cultural management and cultural policy and, after receiving an MA, to become professionals in modern cultural management complying with the requirements, needs and objectives of this field.
The programme includes a wide range of courses in its curriculum in order to address key principles and practices of cultural management and cultural policy along with current and emerging issues in the field. All courses stress to achieve a balance between theory and practice. New subjects are added to the curriculum and the old modules renewed in response to changing needs in the cultural field.
